Description

Monit

Monit is a cool, free, and open-source software that works on any platform. It’s web-based, which makes it super easy to manage and keep an eye on all your processes, daemons, files, folders, and devices if you’re using a GNU/Linux or UNIX-like system.

Easy Monitoring for Everyone

This app lets you handle automatic repairs and maintenance of the stuff you’re monitoring. If something goes wrong, it can perform actions that are easy to understand. With its user-friendly web interface, Monit helps you start, restart, or stop processes. You can also check out files, directories, devices, network connections and even test scripts and programs!

Stay in Control of Your Daemons

Monit can start various daemons like sendmail for you. If your server is under attack? No problem! It can restart or stop your server while giving you a heads-up about what’s happening. Plus, it tracks how much CPU or RAM a specific task is using. The best part? It’s great for keeping an eye on daemon processes running on localhost like Apache servers or MySQL daemons.

Getting Started with Monit

Even though you can access Monit through any web browser (like Firefox or Chrome), there’s a bit of setup involved before installation. First off, grab the latest source tarball from Softpedia. Then unpack it! Open up your Terminal app and use the ‘cd’ command to navigate to where you extracted the files (for example: cd /home/softpedia/monit-5.10). After that run the ‘./configure && make’ command to get everything ready.

Cross-Platform Access

You’ll be happy to know that since Monit is web-based, you can access it from any operating system with a supported browser - whether it's Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer! However, just remember that it only works on GNU/Linux and UNIX-like systems like FreeBSD or Mac OS X. And don’t worry; it supports both 32-bit and 64-bit systems too!
