Newrez is a free, single-file software that's open source and made just for GNU/Linux systems. It makes changing your netbook's screen resolution super easy and quick, all in real-time!
The newrez script is a handy tool based on the popular xrandr command-line tool. You can find this tool in many Linux systems that use the X.Org display server. This means if you're using Linux, you're in good shape!
With newrez, you can switch up your screen's resolution on the fly! Want to push your display higher than its factory settings? No problem! It's perfect for tweaking netbook resolutions from 1024x600 to an impressive 1280x800 or even more.
If you want to try it out, first, download the latest version from either the project's website or through Softpedia. Just save the archive in your Home directory and unzip it using any archive manager you like.
Once you have the files ready, right-click on the 'newrez' file. Go to Preferences and then hit the Permission tab. Make sure to check 'Allow executing file as program.' After that, double-click the script to open it up.
A dialog box will pop up showing your current settings alongside your monitor's default resolution. You can easily pick a new horizontal size, and newrez will automatically adjust everything for you while keeping that aspect ratio just right!
Go to the Softpas website, press the 'Downloads' button, and pick the app you want to download and install—easy and fast!
