What is NoteIf FOR LINUX?

NoteIf

NoteIf is a free and simple graphical text editor that's perfect for anyone looking for a NotePad alternative on Linux. Built with Gambas, it’s designed specifically for Linux kernel-based systems and currently only supports Spanish. But don’t let that stop you; its ease of use makes it accessible to everyone!

Simple and User-Friendly Interface

This software features a straightforward graphical user interface (GUI) that lets you create basic text files in the .txt format without any hassle. You can also customize your text by changing the font style and color to suit your needs.

Development Background

You might want to know that NoteIf is based on an older project called CLText, which was discontinued back in 2012. Right now, NoteIf is still early in its development, so some features are still missing. However, it shows promise as it continues to grow.

Native Installers for Major Distributions

A really cool thing about NoteIf is that it comes with native installers for major GNU/Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, OpenMandriva, Mageia, and Slackware. There’s also a source package available for download but keep in mind that it isn’t usable just yet.

How to Get Started with NoteIf

If you want to try out NoteIf, just grab the native installer for your distribution. Save the file wherever you like, double-click it, and follow the instructions on-screen based on your package manager.

Launching the Application

After installation, you can easily find NoteIf in your Applications Menu or search for it if your desktop has a built-in search feature. And just like that, you're ready to write notes and save them as plain text files!

The Tech Behind NoteIf

If you're curious about how it works under the hood: NoteIf is written in Gambas—a programming language focused on object-oriented design—and uses the Qt GUI toolkit to provide a modern look and feel. It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms right now but does require Gambas 3 or later versions.
