With the help of GNOME Shell extensions, you can customize a lot of aspects in regards to how your GNOME desktop environment looks, feels, and behaves, all while asking yourself the obvious question: "Why isn't this included by default?."
Moving the position of the GNOME notification banners is something that various GNOME Shell extensions can do. Some of the best examples that come to mind are Just Perfection (the popular very comprehensive GNOME Shell customization suite) and Notification Banner Reloaded.
If you're a long-time GNOME user, you might remember that early versions of the DE used to display the notifications in the right top corner of the screen. This particular position makes sense since a lot of other OSes and DEs display notifications in the top right corner.
Just to reiterate, Notification Banner Position does one thing: it moves the notification banners to the top right of the screen, and nothing else.
Of course, as GNOME users, we're somewhat spoiled for choice when it comes to GNOME extensions that allow us to tweak GNOME and make it our own. That's why Notification Banner Position seems a bit underwhelming. It would have been great if it would offer a bit more choice when it comes to the banner's position or a bit of control over the animation.
It's good then that according to the extension's GitHub repository, there are a couple of items on the To-Do list for future development. These include a Preferences screen/menu and the ability to move the banner's location to other corners of the screen.
Even though it would be easy to recommend a lot of other GNOME Shell extensions that do this particular job better, Notification Banner Position is still a useful extension, and its main appeal is that it's so simple that you don't have to ever interact with it. You just install it and reap the benefits despite all of its limitations.
