What is Okteta FOR LINUX?

Okteta

Okteta is the new kid on the block, taking over from KHexEdit for KDE 4.x. If you’re looking for a simple tool to edit raw data in files, you’re in the right place! This tool is often called a hex editor or binary editor, and it’s pretty handy.

What Can Okteta Do?

When you open Okteta, you’ll see the data in a classic two-column format. On one side, you've got numeric values, and on the other side, you'll find their matching characters. The cool part? You can edit stuff right in both columns! Besides just editing, Okteta comes packed with some nice extras. There’s a table that breaks down different decodings into simple data types and another one that shows all possible bytes along with their character and value equivalents.

Extra Features

If you're curious about what you've done in your edits, don't worry! Okteta lets you undo or redo changes as much as you like. It even has an info view that gives you statistics about your data and a filter tool to help manage things better.

Modular Design for More Fun!

The design of Okteta is super modular. This means it will soon be open to plugins! So if there are extra features you'd like to see, they might be on their way.

The Development Journey

This software was developed in the playground/utils module within the KDE repository. Right now, it's getting ready for its big move into the kdeutils module—exciting times ahead!
