What is OpenCA OCSP Responder FOR LINUX?

OpenCA OCSP Responder

OpenCA OCSP Responder is a powerful, free, and open-source software that works great as a web-based Certification Authority (CA). It's super flexible since it can run on different platforms. You might also hear people call it the OpenCA PKI Development Project or just OpenCA.

Key Features of OpenCA OCSP Responder

This software comes loaded with features like a complete PKI (Public-key Infrastructure), a PRQP (PKI Resource Query Protocol) responder, and an OCSP (Online Certificate Status Protocol) server. Plus, it supports multiple RA (Registration Authority) servers. That's pretty handy!

Easy Certificate Verification

As you can guess from its name, this RFC 2560 compliant OCSPD responder is part of the main OpenCA software package. It makes checking a certificate’s status super easy! You can even set it up as a stand-alone daemon application if you prefer that route.

Installing OpenCA on Your System

If you're looking to install and use OpenCA on your GNU/Linux operating system, you'll want to download either the universal source tarball or a pre-built binary specifically for Fedora 19. If you're not using Fedora or another Linux distro that supports RPM package management, we recommend going with the source tarball for installation.

Getting Started with Installation

Once you've downloaded the archive, save it in your Home directory. Use an archive manager to extract its contents. Then, open up your terminal emulator and navigate to where you extracted those files using the ‘cd’ command (for example: cd /home/softpedia/openca-ocspd-3.1.0). After that, run ‘./configure && make’ to set everything up and compile the program. Finally, use ‘sudo make install’ to get it installed system-wide.

A Peek Under the Hood

If you're curious about how OpenCA works behind the scenes, you'll find it's built with Perl, JavaScript, and C programming languages. It runs smoothly on various operating systems like GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X.
