OpenH323

OpenH323 is a cool project that gives you a fully-featured, open-source way to use the ITU H.323 teleconferencing protocol. Whether you're a personal developer or working in a commercial setting, this software is free to use!

Requirements for OpenH323

You'll need:

• GNU make (version 3.75 or higher)


• bison (version 1.25 or higher)


• flex (version 2.5.4 or higher)

How to Install OpenH323

Here's how you can get started:

1. Download the necessary files: pwlib_min_x.xx.tar.gz and openh323_1.xx.tar.gz.


2. Extract the pwlib file somewhere, like your home directory:
   

   cd
   
   
   
         tar -xzvf pwlib_min_1.14.tar.gz
   
         

   
   This should create a ./pwlib folder.
   


3. If you haven’t installed PWLib in your home directory (/home/username/pwlib) yet, set an environment variable called PWLIBDIR. Also, add $PWLIBDIR/lib to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH.


4. Create the library versions:
   
   Navigate to your PWLib directory and run:
   

   cd $PWLIBDIR
   
         make both
   
         

   
   This could take a bit of time.
   


5. A quick heads up: If you're seeing lots of errors during this process, ensure you're using GNU make! FreeBSD and OpenBSD users should install gmake instead.


6. Add OpenH323 files:
   
   Extract the contents of the openh323 file:
   

   cd
   
   
   
         tar -xzvf openh323_1.1alpha1.tar.gz
   
         

   
   


7. If OpenH323 isn’t in your home directory (/home/username/openh323) yet, set an environment variable called OPENH323DIR. Make sure to also add $OPENH323DIR/lib.


8. Create H323 bootstrap code:
   
   Navigate to OpenH323 directory and run:
   

   cd $OPENH323DIR
   
         make opt
   
         

   
   This might take some time as well.
   


9. The result will be an executable named simph323. To run it, type:
   

   (your_directory)/samples/simple/obj_linux_x86_r/simph323
   
         

   
   This should give you some helpful usage info!
