OpenSAF
OpenSAF is a cool open-source project that aims to create a solid middleware platform. This platform follows the guidelines set by the Service Availability Forum (SA Forum). A bunch of big names in Communications and Enterprise Computing came together to kick off the OpenSAF Foundation, which helps push this project forward and get the OpenSAF code into real-world products.
The History of OpenSAF

The foundation was officially formed on January 22nd, 2008, with major players like Emerson Network Power, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, HP, and Sun Microsystems as founding members.
