Pin It! is a handy little Linux application that helps you create shortcuts to portable apps, like raw executable files and AppImage files, right in your computer's default app launcher. It's got a name that really says what it does!
Even though this idea isn't super new (there are plenty of third-party, open-source app launchers out there that do similar things), Pin It! aims to make your experience with Linux even better.
One of the coolest features is how easy it is to add, edit, or delete app entries without jumping into the file manager. Plus, it has syntax error detection, so you won’t accidentally add broken entries. It can even give execution permission to the file or app you want to use!
Everything you do gets saved automatically—from your edits and last opened views to your preferences. You won’t have to worry about losing your work.
To add an app to your desktop environment's launcher, just open Pin It!, choose either "New Entry" or "Edit Entry," and fill in some details: File name, App Name, Comment, Exec File location, Icon File, and App Categories. Easy peasy!
If you want to run specific apps directly in the Terminal, there’s an option for that too—just click it while you're in the New Entry section.
If you're using elementary OS, you can install Pin It! straight from the AppCenter. For other Linux distributions, there's a handy Flathub mirror available.
You might think Pin It! isn’t all that impressive at first glance. But trust me—little apps like this can really boost the user experience for most people.
If you're ready to enhance your Linux setup with this nifty tool, check out Pin It! today!
