What is Popsicle FOR LINUX?

Popsicle

Popsicle is a super simple and free USB flashing tool that’s open-source too! It’s written in Rust and the code is available on GitHub, which is pretty cool.

So, here’s a fun fact: Popsicle is actually the go-to USB flashing utility for Pop!_OS. That’s an Ubuntu-based OS made by System76.

Why Choose Popsicle?

You might be wondering what makes Popsicle special. Well, it lets you create multiple bootable USB drives at the same time! Yep, you can flash several USB devices all at once without breaking a sweat.

Easy to Use and Resource Friendly

What’s even better? It does all this without hogging your computer's resources. Plus, it’s really user-friendly!

What You Should Know About Popsicle

Before we jump into how to use it, let me share some important details: Popsicle supports both USB 2 and 3. You can even use it from the command line if you prefer that route. And guess what? It can verify ISO images using SHA256 and MD5 checksums.

Popsicle can handle both ISO and IMG image types with ease.

Popsicle Installation Options

If you're running Pop!_OS, good news—it comes pre-installed! But no worries if you’re on Ubuntu or Linux Mint; it works just as well there.

You have two easy ways to get Popsicle: either download the AppImage file from its official GitHub repository, or grab it via PPA. For the PPA method, just open up your Terminal and type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:system76/pop
sudo apt install popsicle popsicle-gtk

Once installed, you'll find it under “USB Flasher” in your system.

Using Popsicle Made Simple

Getting started with Popsicle is a breeze! Just connect your USB drives, pick the image (.ISO or .IMG) you want to flash onto them, and hit “Next.” Then choose which USB devices to flash from the list provided and click “Next” again. That’s pretty much it! Once it's done creating or flashing your drives, Popsicle will let you know.

The Standout Feature of Popsicle

The best part about Popsicle? Writing multiple USB devices at once takes it to another level. Even if it didn’t have this feature, though, it's still an awesome USB flashing tool!

Popsicle is free, open-source, easy to use, and supports both USB 2 and 3 while also giving you options for checking image integrity. The ability to write multiple USBs at once? That's a fantastic bonus for everyone!
