What is PowerDNS Oracle Backend For Linux?

PowerDNS Oracle Backend

PowerDNS Oracle Backend is a cool tool that lets you use Oracle as your data storage for DNS. Basically, it acts like a bridge between PowerDNS and an Oracle database, making it easier to manage your DNS data.

What Does PowerDNS Oracle Backend Do?

This backend driver for the PowerDNS nameserver lets you keep all your DNS data in an Oracle database. One of the best parts? PowerDNS can load these backend modules while it's running, which is super handy!

Configurable and Flexible

Another great feature of the PowerDNS Oracle Backend is its full configurability. You can specify SQL statements right in the configuration file, giving you a lot of control over how things work.

Requirements to Get Started

Requirements:

  • PowerDNS Dynamic RPM/DEB Version 2.1 or higher

  • PowerDNS Backend Development Kit Version 2.1 or higher

  • gcc 3.0

  • gcc 3.0 libraries

Installation Steps

If you've got all those requirements checked off, you're ready to install! Just run 'make' followed by 'make install' as root user. If your Oracle client isn't in /opt/oracle or if the development kit is located somewhere else, you'll need to edit the Makefile.

Enabling Your New Backend

If everything goes smoothly during installation, PowerDNS will now be able to access the 'oracle' backend! To enable it, just add 'launch=oracle' in the documentation settings.
