Description

Project Trident

Project Trident is a free and open-source computer operating system based on TrueOS, which itself is built on FreeBSD. The main goal of Project Trident is to make the BSD operating system easier to use for everyone, whether you're just starting out or have some experience as a system admin.

Boot Options with Project Trident

The ISO image for Project Trident comes with standard BSD boot options. This means you can boot the OS in single or multi-user mode, access a terminal prompt, choose a kernel to load, and enable various boot options like ACPI, Safe Mode, and Verbose. Just keep in mind that Project Trident only works on 64-bit systems and requires installation since there's no live version available.

User-Friendly Desktop Environment

The default desktop environment for Project Trident is powered by Lumina. The developers of TrueOS created this environment, but Project Trident has its own custom version that looks modern and is super easy to use. You'll find several handy utilities built right in along with popular apps that most users love.

Regular Updates for Smooth Sailing

Like TrueOS, Project Trident focuses on providing a smooth BSD experience for desktop users. It gives you weekly updates for all your packages and system updates every six months. You get to decide when you want to apply these updates so you can keep working without interruptions.

Security Features That Keep You Safe

Your safety matters! By default, Project Trident doesn't get viruses or malware easily. It comes with a built-in firewall and supports SSH (Secure Shell), although root logins are turned off by default for extra protection. Plus, it automatically notifies you about security advisories and supports AES instruction set (AESNI). It also includes sudo privileges and uses ZFS as its file system.

A Modern BSD Experience Awaits!

Overall, Project Trident delivers on its promise of providing a modern BSD OS for everyone. The Lumina desktop is perfect for beginners while advanced users will appreciate the self-developed utilities that help manage daily tasks. We totally recommend giving Project Trident a try if you're looking to run BSD on your PC!
