Proton Mail has been around for ten years now! If you care about your privacy, you probably know it's one of the best email services focused on keeping your information safe. Well, guess what? They finally released Proton Mail Desktop, and it's exciting news!

What is Proton Mail Desktop?

This new desktop app works on all major platforms like Windows, macOS, and Linux (though the Linux version is still in Beta). It’s about time they had a proper desktop app! As a Proton Mail user myself, I always thought it was a bit odd to check emails through a browser when security is so important.

Why It Matters

We did have Proton Mail Bridge, which let people access their accounts through other email apps. But even that had its risks. Now, with this standalone app, we can enjoy better security and convenience. It's honestly one of the biggest updates for us users!

User Experience

I’ve tried the app myself and found it really enjoyable to use! It looks similar to the web app (which is great), but it also has some neat extras. The way it connects with your operating system is smooth too. Even though the Linux version is in Beta, things like native notifications and light/dark modes work perfectly.

A Few Drawbacks

Now, I should mention something that might bother some folks: this isn’t an open-source or free app. Linux users might not be thrilled about that, but if you're into privacy and security as much as I am, paying for this service feels worth it.
