pyOBD is an OBD-II compliant car diagnostic utility designed to interface with low-cost ELM 32x OBD-II diagnostic interfaces such as ELM-USB. It enables communication with your car's ECU, displays fault codes, measured values, status tests, and more. All cars manufactured post-1996 in the US or post-2001 in the EU should be OBD-II compliant, making them compatible with pyOBD. This software is written in Python and is distributed as Free Software under the GPL. For Python developers, pyOBD offers a module called obd_io for high-level control over sensor data and diagnostic trouble code management.
The package is tested to function on Windows, Debian/Ubuntu Linux, and Mac OSX 10.3 (Panther). It is compatible with most Posix-type systems meeting the specified requirements. While theoretically supported on Windows, this platform has not been officially tested.
