Description

Route Sentry

Route Sentry is designed for South Africans who want to easily use two different ADSL accounts on the same computer at once. Sounds cool, right?

Easy Setup for Two Accounts

Many folks might shy away from using two ADSL accounts because it can get pretty tricky. You usually have to set up the IP routing tables every time you connect again since ISPs give dynamic IP addresses. But guess what? Route Sentry takes care of that hassle for you!

Automatic Traffic Management

This handy software will keep an eye on both your connections. It automatically sends South African traffic through your "local" account and routes everything else through the "international" one. So, no more manual switching!

Stay Connected, No Matter What

If either of your connections drops (which can happen about once a day), Route Sentry will quickly reconnect. Plus, it keeps everything flowing smoothly even if your IP addresses change after reconnecting.

No Direct Connection Needed

You don’t even need to have the modem plugged directly into your PC! This software works just as well if it’s connected to a hub or switch in your network. So you can share the modem between different PCs without any issues.

A Few Important Tips

You’ll need to set the number of lines (WAN endpoints) in the PPPoE protocol properties to 2 or more. If not, you might see an error saying the device is busy when trying to “dial” up that second connection.

And when you first test the connection, make sure to check that ‘save password’ box in the “Connect” dialog; otherwise Route Sentry won’t connect automatically for you.

Security Matters!

If you've been using your ADSL modem in router mode before, you probably didn’t worry much about internet threats since it acted like a firewall. But now that you're switching to “modem/bridge” mode, be careful! Your PC will be connected directly to the internet when you dial up next time. Using a software firewall is super important—like the built-in Windows XP firewall.

The Right Accounts Make All the Difference

Just remember: one account should be strictly for local access while the other one is meant for international use only!
