Snap Assist is a cool feature that's been around in Windows since Windows 7. It lets you "snap" windows to the sides or edges of your screen, resizing them nicely at the same time.

Now, macOS has tons of other window management tools, so some might think Snap Assist is just extra fluff. But honestly, it can be pretty handy! This small, open-source app brings that helpful Windows feature to your Mac. Once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder how you lived without it!

How to Organize Your Windows

You’ve got two easy ways to arrange your windows. The first one is super simple: just drag a window to the side of your screen, and voilà! It’ll resize to fill half of your desktop or go fullscreen.

Keyboard Shortcuts Make Life Easier

If dragging isn’t really your style, no worries! There are some slick keyboard shortcuts you can use. For example, hitting ⌃⌘W will make a window fullscreen. If you want it back to normal size (which is fixed and can’t be changed), use ⌃⌘S. Want a window on the left? Press ⌃⌘A. Need it on the right? Just hit ⌃⌘D.

Room for Improvement

The developer is definitely headed in the right direction with this app, but there are still some things that could be better for macOS users. For instance, once you snap a window to one side or go fullscreen with it, it won't return to its original size when you unsnap it. You can use that ⌃⌘S hotkey again for a more manageable size, but that’s not ideal.

No Corner Snapping Yet

Also, currently, you can't snap windows into the corners of your screen. This makes working with more than two windows at once trickier than it should be.

A Worthy Try!

This app isn't perfect yet—but it's definitely worth checking out! It's completely free and open-source too! Who knows? More features could come in future updates! While it's not exactly a macOS version of what Windows offers yet, it's pretty close and has lots of potential.
