The interface is super user-friendly. You can analyze a range of IP addresses or hostnames to see which ports are open or closed on your network computers. It uses Npcap, which will install automatically if you don’t already have it on your computer.

When you first launch SolarWinds Port Scanner, you'll see all the data right in front of you—no complicated menus to navigate! To start scanning, just set up your scan profile by entering the IP address ranges or hostnames, separated by commas. You can also adjust the port range you want to scan.

If you’re more experienced, you're in luck! SolarWinds Port Scanner offers some advanced options too. You can choose to look for TCP ports, UDP ports, or both types. Plus, it can send a ping request first and only proceed if the target host responds.

Name Resolution and MAC Address Detection

The app lets you resolve hostnames and even use a specific DNS server instead of just the default settings on your local machine. It also retrieves MAC addresses and detects what operating system version is running.

After finishing a scan, SolarWinds Port Scanner shows all hosts along with details about open, closed, and filtered ports. Clicking on any IP address reveals its port number and type as well as which application is using it. You can even perform nslookup or traceroute with just one click!
