What is squint FOR LINUX?

Squint

Squint is a cool, free, and open-source tool built in C. It's designed to help you mirror your monitor's output in a separate X11 window. This way, you can easily show your presentations on multiple screens without any hassle.

Easy Presentations

With Squint, you can display demos on more than one monitor at the same time. And guess what? You don’t have to clone your whole screen! This means that while you're presenting or showing off something, your laptop’s LCD screen stays completely free for you to keep working.

Installing Squint on Linux

If you're ready to try out Squint, installing it on your GNU/Linux setup is pretty straightforward. First, you'll need to download the bz2 archive from Softpedia or directly from the project's official site (check the link at the end!). Once it's downloaded, save it somewhere on your computer.

Next up, extract the files from that archive. Open up a terminal emulator and navigate to where those files are saved using the ‘cd’ command (for example: cd /home/softpedia/squint-0.7).

Setting Up Squint

Now you’re ready to configure Squint. Just run the command ‘./waf configure’ in your terminal. If you're curious about what options you have for optimizing it, type ‘./waf --help’. After that, compile it by running ‘./waf’. To make sure everyone can use it on your Linux system, install it by running ‘./waf install’ as root.

A Peek Under the Hood

If you're interested in how Squint works behind the scenes, here's a little info: it’s written fully in C and needs GTK+ 3.0 or later along with Python 2 to function properly. There are some extra but optional requirements like libxdamage and libxrandr that can enhance its performance. Plus, this app is POSIX compatible! So it'll work well on any Linux or UNIX-like OS with both 32-bit and 64-bit support.
