SrtResync

SrtResync is a handy command-line tool that helps you sync up subtitles in SubRip (.srt) format. So, if you've ever watched a movie and thought, "Hey, these subtitles are totally out of whack!", this tool is your best friend. With SrtResync, you can easily shift the timing of the subtitles by adding or subtracting time to get everything aligned with the dialogue.

Getting Started with SrtResync

Before diving into using this tool, you'll need to install Ruby since SrtResync runs on it. If you're on a Debian-based system, all it takes is typing:

sudo apt-get install ruby

If you're logged in as the 'root' user, you can simply type:

apt-get install ruby

For other Linux distributions, just use your package manager to grab Ruby.

How to Use SrtResync

Once you've got Ruby installed, head over to the directory where you saved the SrtResync script. To see how it works and what options are available, type:

./srt-resync --help

Understanding the Command Options

This will show you something like this:

Usage: srt-resync.rb -d DELAY [OPTIONS] FILE

This tells you that SrtResync will sync your .srt files by applying a specified delay. Here's a quick rundown of some important options:

  • -f, --input-file IFILE: This option lets you specify which input file (your .srt file) to use.

  • -d, --delay DELAY: This is where you set how much time to add or subtract (in milliseconds). Remember: make it positive if your subtitles come before the speech; negative if they're after!

  • -i, --inplace [EXTENSION]: This allows for editing directly in place (and making a backup if you provide an extension).

  • -o, --output-file OFILE: Use this option to specify where you want to save your output file.

  • -h, --help: Need help? This option shows you all commands!

  • -V, --version: Want to check what version you're running? This one's for you!

Your Next Steps!

If you're ready to download SrtResync now!, it's really simple and will make watching movies way more enjoyable without those annoying subtitle delays!
