If you’re already diving into coding, there are various tools that can help you out. One of those tools is Text Comparer, which helps you spot differences between two similar documents and highlights what’s changed.

Easy to Use

This app comes in a lightweight package, so you don’t have to deal with a complicated setup process. You can even run it straight from a thumb drive! Just make sure you have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer first since it’s built on that platform.

Simple Interface

When you open the main window, it's pretty straightforward. You just need to choose which files to compare. There are simple panes for the content of both files, but keep in mind that drag and drop isn’t available. You’ll have to use the built-in dialogs to load the source and destination files. Right now, it only supports TXT and RTF file formats.

Set Your Parameters

The comparison doesn’t start right away; you get some time to set up your detection parameters first. While it might seem a bit tricky at first, you can tweak numerical values like LD distance, words to skip, word length, search window size, and result length. There’s even an option for adaptive skips!

Quick Results

Once you kick off the process, it takes about a second before results pop up! It shows all similar parts highlighted while differences appear in plain text. Just remember: if the documents don’t have text on different lines, it could be hard to understand what’s going on.
