TTX and FontTools

TTX and FontTools make typeface production super easy! This awesome software is open source, free, and works on different platforms. It’s a great alternative to those pricey programs that usually help you convert TrueType and OpenType fonts to XML (Extensible Markup Language) format.

What is FontTools?

The FontTools part of this project is actually a library written in Python. It’s designed to work with the TTX program for all your font needs. It supports various formats like OpenType (OTF), TrueType (TTF), Adobe Font Metrics (AFM), Type 1, and even some special Mac OS X formats!

How to Install TTX and FontTools

If you're ready to install TTX and FontTools on your GNU/Linux computer, first grab the latest version from Softpedia using the download button above or check out the project's official website (link at the end of this article).

Setting It Up

After downloading, save the archive somewhere easy to find—like your Home folder. Then extract its contents using an archive manager. Next, open up a terminal emulator app. You’ll need to use the 'cd' command to navigate to where you saved those extracted files. For example: cd /home/softpedia/fonttools-2.5.

Installing the Program

Now for the final step! Just run this command: sudo python setup.py install. This will install it system-wide, making it available for everyone on your system. To use it, just enter ttx in your Terminal app.
