txt2mp3mac is a cool little app that’s totally free and works on AppleScript. What does it do? It turns your text files into MP3 audio files! So, if you’ve got a bunch of text and want to listen to it instead of reading, this app is perfect for you.
This software is super handy for making audiobooks from ebooks or even listening to your lecture notes while you're out and about. Imagine being able to absorb all that info without having to stare at a screen!
So here’s the deal: txt2mp3mac uses the default speech synthesizer on Mac OS X for turning text into speech. Plus, it includes LAME v3.98, which helps convert everything into MP3 format.
The Mac OS X speech synthesizer creates AIFF files, but those can get huge, especially if you’re working with something long like a book. To keep things manageable, the app processes each paragraph one at a time. It reads a paragraph, converts it to an MP3 right away, and then deletes the big AIFF file before moving on.
Once every paragraph is read and converted into temporary MP3s, txt2mp3mac combines them into one final MP3 file. This means no unnecessary clutter left behind—just clean audio ready for you!
