VGrive is a cool app that helps you manage your Google Drive files right from your Linux system. Since it launched back in April 2012, Google Drive has been one of the best online storage solutions out there, and for a good reason! Google products are generally pretty great.
So, what’s the deal with VGrive? Well, it’s mainly used for file storage and backup. But here’s where it gets interesting: it’s also super handy for collaborating on projects, whether you’re in a small business or at school.
The most popular way to access Google Drive is through your web browser. Most of us stick to that because it works like a charm. But if you want something more integrated with your system—especially if you're using the app mostly for file storage—you might want to check out the official client.
If you're running Linux, though, you’ll need a third-party client app like VGrive. This unofficial client is built using Vala and works on most Linux distributions. While it might not have all the bells and whistles of the official apps available on Windows or macOS, it can still be a solid solution.
The main advantage? You can access and sync files to and from your Google Drive without having to open your browser! This makes things run lighter on system resources too.
The app features a simple user interface (UI) that’s easy to navigate. You can delete files (they go to the Trash folder), start syncing as soon as you launch the app, and even choose between two themes: Light or Dark!
If you’re not a fan of the official Google Drive web app and want an easier way to keep your files synced up, then give VGrive a try! Just keep in mind that while it doesn’t offer all the same freedom as its official counterparts for other operating systems, you do get automatic synchronization.
