Description
Wellenreiter
Wellenreiter is a super handy gtkperl program designed to help you discover and audit 802.11b wireless networks effortlessly. Whether you're looking for access points, networks, or ad-hoc cards, this software has got your back!
Easy Network Discovery
The coolest part? Wellenreiter features an easy-to-use scanner window that finds any access point within the range of your scanning device. It’s like having a personal radar for wireless networks!
Detecting Networks
This tool can spot both essid broadcasting and non-broadcasting wireless networks. It even identifies the manufacturer using the device's MAC address! Plus, it detects WEP and BSS/IBSS as well.
GPS Support & Autodetection
You can even detect essids of non-broadcasting networks, and there's built-in GPS support (just make sure you have gpsd). What’s really awesome is that Wellenreiter doesn’t need much setup anymore. Its autodetection feature automatically picks the right card type and uses the correct commands.
Supported Cards
If you're using Lucent/Orinocco, Cisco, or Prism2/2.5 (with WLAN-NG drivers), you’re in luck! Just a heads up: hosap drivers don’t work in this version yet—stay tuned for updates!
Network Symbols Explained
You’ll notice red symbols for non-essid-broadcasting networks—these are access points that keep their essid network name hidden for security reasons. Non-broadcasting networks can only be detected using raw-sniffing mode, while green symbols represent broadcasting networks.
Traffic Indicators
The software lets you know whether an access point is sending data by showing “ON” or “OFF” next to WEP/cleartext sending access points along with a little lock icon. You’ll also see different icons for AD-Hoc stations (BSS) compared to real access points (IBSS).
Your Findings at a Glance
If there are new channels holding objects, they’ll show up in red until you select them. The pkt indicator on the right side switches between “+” and “*” to show if traffic is coming through—pretty neat!
Log Your Discoveries
If you click on an object in the tree view, a detail window pops up that refreshes after some time; keep it open to track ARP and DHCP traffic. Use the log window to manage all your findings easily while checking out incoming packets in the traffic window.
