xCHM is a free, open-source software that’s super handy for reading CHM (Microsoft Compiled HTML Help) files. It’s built using C++ and wxWidgets, which makes it work smoothly across different platforms. So whether you're on Linux, Mac OS X, or even Windows, you can use it!
This cool app lets you do a bunch of things:
The first time you open xCHM, you’ll see a welcome screen with tips and tricks to help you get started. The interface is really simple—no clutter! You’ll find just the basic buttons you need. Plus, there’s a full-screen mode if you want to dive deep into your reading without distractions.
If you're using GNU/Linux and want to install xCHM, it’s best to check your package manager first. Look for the ‘xchm’ package in the default software repositories. If it’s not there, don’t worry! You can download the latest version from Softpas.
Once you've downloaded it, save the TAR archive in your Home directory. Extract its contents using an archive manager tool. Then, open up a terminal window and navigate to where you extracted those files. Here’s what you'll type:
./configure && make
This will set everything up as long as you've got all the necessary dependencies like wxGTK and CHMLIB installed already.
If all goes well with compilation, run either:
make install
sudomake install
, depending on whether you're logged in as root or have user privileges. After installation, you'll find xCHM ready to use from your Start Menu!Go to the Softpas website, press the 'Downloads' button, and pick the app you want to download and install—easy and fast!
