What is xfce4-notifyd FOR LINUX?

xfce4-notifyd

xfce4-notifyd is this super handy, free, and open-source command-line tool that runs in the background. It’s designed to show visual notifications right on your Xfce desktop environment. So if you’re working away on your computer and need to keep track of important alerts, this software has got your back!

What is xfce4-notifyd?

So, what exactly is it? Well, xfce4-notifyd stands for the Xfce Notify Daemon. It’s basically a part of the Freedesktop desktop notifications spec tailored just for Xfce users. Think of it as a friendly port from the popular GNOME notification-daemon project.

How Does It Work?

This daemon taps into D-Bus and uses libnotify to pop up little notification bubbles in one of the corners of your screen. And guess what? You can tweak where those bubbles show up right from your desktop's main Control Panel. Pretty cool, right?

What Notifications Can You Get?

The neat part is that xfce4-notifyd can display notifications for any app that sends standard messages over D-Bus using the org.freedesktop.Notifications interface. That means you’ll get alerts for system events too—like errors, daemon crashes, or even when you’ve got active network connections.

Installation Requirements

If you're ready to install xfce4-notifyd on your GNU/Linux system, here’s what you'll need: GTK+ 2.6.0 or higher, libxfce4util 4.3.90 or later, libxfcegui4 4.3.90 or later, D-Bus 0.36 or higher, and libsexy 0.1.3 or later.
