XWinWrap

XWinWrap is a cool little software that lets you jazz up your desktop by replacing your boring background with a movie or screensaver, especially if you're using XGL. Imagine having a dynamic and fun wallpaper that moves!

What is XWinWrap?

XWinWrap isn’t exactly brand new; it’s been around for a while. This handy utility was designed to let you stick apps right onto your desktop background. So, whether you want to show off an animated screensaver like glmatrix or even play a movie as your wallpaper, this tool makes it happen!

Some Issues with the Original Version

However, there were some hiccups with the original release. For instance:

• Sticking didn’t work: If you minimized everything or hit “go to desktop,” your cool wallpaper would minimize too.


• No geometry option: You couldn’t create, say, a small matrix window surrounded by your regular wallpaper.

The New and Improved Shantz XWinWrap

Seeing that nobody was picking it up for fixes, I took on the challenge last weekend! I polished it up and added new features to make it better than ever. Say hello to Shantz XWinWrap!

XWinWrap Command Options

If you're wondering how to use this nifty tool, here’s the command format:
xwinwrap [-g] [-ni] [-argb] [-fs] [-s] [-st] [-sp] [-a] [-b] [-nf] [-fl] [-o OPACITY] -- COMMAND ARG1...

• -g: geometry


• -ni: no input


• -argb: Alpha, Red, Green, Blue (??)


• -fs: fullscreen


• -s: sticky


• -st: skip taskbar


• -sp: skip pager


• -a: above


• -b: below


• -nf: noFocus


• -o: opacity=# (Between 0 and 1)
