YaST2-GTK

YaST2-GTK is a cool UI plugin that works with YaST2, using GTK+ as its render engine. If you're using openSUSE, you're probably familiar with YaST, which is the setup tool that makes everything easier when it comes to managing your system.

Getting Started with YaST2-GTK

The project kicked off by Michael Meeks and really took off during Google's Summer of Code, where Ricardo Cruz got involved. It’s pretty neat how community projects like this can grow!

Installing YaST2-GTK

If you want to install YaST2-GTK, it’s super simple! Just open up your terminal and type:

sudo zypper install yast2-gtk

What You Need to Compile YaST2-GTK

Now, if you're thinking about compiling it yourself, there are a few packages you’ll need to have installed first. At a minimum, make sure you have these:

  • gcc-c++

  • gtk2-devel

  • yast2-devtools

  • yast2-core-devel

  • yast2-libyui-devel

  • libzypp-devel

No worries though; all of these packages can be found on SUSE's CDs. So if you’ve got those handy, you're good to go!

Your Next Steps!

If you're ready to dive in and start using YaST2-GTK!, just follow the steps above. It's a great way to get more familiar with openSUSE's tools and enhance your user experience.
