How Does Zfone Work?
One of the best things about Zfone is that it doesn’t need SIP signaling for key management. In fact, it doesn't rely on any servers at all! It handles everything in a peer-to-peer way over the RTP packet stream. This means you can use it with any standard SIP phone. But here’s the catch: you’ll only get call encryption when both parties are using ZRTP clients.

The ZRTP protocol is being proposed as a public standard to make sure different SIP endpoints from various vendors can play nice together.
