AegiSub is a free, open-source software that acts as a super handy subtitle editor for your favorite GNU/Linux systems. It’s designed to help anyone create and tweak subtitles easily and quickly.

Subtitle Editing Made Easy

This cool app supports various Unicode formats like UTF-7, UTF-8, UTF-16LE, and UTF-16BE. You can also import non-Unicode subtitles! AegiSub works with lots of subtitle formats including Advanced Substation Alpha (.ass), Subrip (.srt), Sub Station Alpha (.ssa), and plain old text files (.txt). So whatever you’re working on, it’s got you covered!

Powerful Features at Your Fingertips

AegiSub comes packed with features. Want to undo your last move? No problem—it has multiple undo levels! You can also convert tags from SRT to ASS format, play around with syntax highlighting, and even adjust the aspect ratio. Plus, there's a fonts collector, playback mode for audio timing, and more unique tools that turn it into a powerful editing tool.

User-Friendly Interface

The user interface is pretty straightforward. You’ll find basic editing tools like copy/paste options or even find/replace functions. You can easily change styles, spell check your subtitles, insert or duplicate lines, shift timings around, or add video/audio streams too! If you're feeling fancy, use timecode files or keyframes.

Customize It Your Way

You can dive into the Preferences dialog to set things up just how you want them. There are tons of options to tweak—maybe even too many—but they’re super useful for such a robust program.

Cross-Platform Support

The entire program is built using C++ and it runs on the wxWidgets framework for its GUI. It works on all GNU/Linux distributions along with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X too!
