Amharic Letters is a slim and minimalistic OS X educational application designed to help you learn and listen to pronunciations of the whole Amharic alphabet. Amharic is the official language in Ethiopia and is spoken by 25 million users, according to a 2007 poll. After Arabic, it is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world.
The letters in the Amharic language are also called ‘Fidel’, which are actually distinctive symbols that are similar to Arabic characters. Moreover, Amharic includes a total of different 84 symbols. The Amharic Letters app provides both the characters and their counterparts in the Latin alphabet.
Each Amharic character is defined by two different Latin characters. Within the app, users can view all 84 characters organized into 7 columns and 12 rows. Talking about the user interface, it is highly condensed and displays only the Amharic alphabet and no other options.
The background of the table is yellow, and the Fidel letters are slightly bigger than their Latin counterparts. Aside from the letters, you can also hear the native pronunciation of each character. To do so, simply click on any of them, and you will hear a clear and easy-to-understand voice.
