Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy is your go-to spam filter that works right on port 25 (SMTP). It can also handle ports 465 (SMTPS) and 587 (submission) if you want. This handy tool sits in front of your usual SMTP server to keep those pesky spam messages at bay.
How Does It Work?
So, here’s the deal: ASSP acts like a middleman between an incoming client and your SMTP server. It relays their conversation but can jump in whenever it spots something suspicious. When ASSP finds a spam message, it quickly sends back a 5xx SMTP error code to let the sender know their message didn’t make it through.
Handling Non-Spam Messages
If the message isn’t spam, it gets passed right along to your regular SMTP server for further processing and delivery. For those unwanted spam messages, ASSP gives you options: you can either block them completely or tag them for further review before they get delivered.
