AntWordProfiler

AntWordProfiler is a language and linguistics software tool that can evaluate the comprehensibility of a text. Its main purpose is to profile the vocabulary level and the complexity of a text, especially as perceived by someone who is reading it in a second language.

The application aims to assess the level of comprehension of a text by analyzing statistical data related to the distribution of words across files and texts and assessing how much of the text is covered by frequently used words when it comes to language learning.

The application requires no installation. As soon as you double-click on the main executable file, the ?GUi is displayed, allowing you to start experimenting with the program.

You start by adding target files to the list or even entire directories, allowing the application to extract compatible data on its own. Common document file formats are supported, such as TXT, PDF and DOCX. Reference files can also be added, as AntWordProfiler extracts their content and allows you to use the word lists as a starting point in the analysis.

The main window allows text previewing in the embedded editor, color-coding words it identifies in the reference lists. In other words, you can look at the word coverage within the text, instead of simply analyzing statistical data.

And speaking of statistical data, you should know that complete statistics of the analyzed files are generated automatically during the analysis. You get to see input file stats, coverage and range stats, word frequency, input file type stats, and so on.

AntWordProfiler brings to the table something different than its brother tool, AntConc. Relying on word frequency analysis from multiple files and statistics regarding word coverage based on reference files, this application delivers a rather good corpus linguistics analyzer. It is the software to use for text profiling and type occurrence analysis.
