Arronax is a handy plugin for Nautilus that helps you create and tweak application starters, which are basically .desktop files. It's super useful if you want to make launching your favorite applications easier.
When you right-click on a file in the file manager, you'll see a new option pop up: “Create starter for this file.” This means you can quickly make an application starter right from there! If you're working with an existing application starter, the option changes to “Modify this starter,” making it easy to update any details.
If you like having icons on your desktop, Arronax adds another option: “Create starter” shows up in the desktop’s context menu. This makes it even simpler to create shortcuts without digging through menus.
Now, if you're using Gnome, by default, it doesn't show icons on your desktop. But don't worry! You can easily change this setting. Just open up a Terminal and type in:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true
Then hit ENTER, and voilà! You'll start seeing those icons in no time.
