Generally speaking, file attributes can be used to further customize the behavior of various files and folders on your system. For instance, you can change the attributes of a file so that it becomes read-only and hence, make sure that nobody can modify the content. Alternatively, you can mark data as Hidden to keep it safe from others that are using the same computer.

Viewing and editing the attributes is commonly done by accessing the Properties menu from the context menu of the same file or folder. auWin provides a more convenient way to view and manage attributes as well as other options that are not typically present in Properties.

The application doesn’t require installation or configuration, but it is recommended that you run it as Administrator to avoid possible errors when accessing files and folders. The interface consists of a single small window that provides two search fields, one for the title or class and another for the handle. On the right side, you have four title match modes, whereas the left drop-down menu is where you can select the action.

You will be happy to learn that the tool allows you to add way more actions that you typically have access to via Properties. You can display, close, kill, flash, set the transparency, make it always on top, enable, disable, restore, get text, so on and so forth. Functionality-wise, you need to specify the title, select a match mode and an action and hit the Start button. In the display area located in the lower area of the GUI, you can preview all items found.
