Backup PC files to Ftp is a desktop utility with a self-explanatory name. The program is both lightweight and simplistic and allows you to establish active or passive FTP connections to a remote server for backing up your files.

To get started, you must specify one or multiple directories that you want to submit for backup. Each folder is referenced by its path (its location in your file system).

You can remove one or multiple instances if added by mistake. Also, the dedicated panel works based on priority (the first item will be uploaded first — a FIFO queue). As such, folders can be moved up or down before you initiate the backup.

Next, you can configure the parameters of the entire process, such as the remote path of the directory where you want to put your files, the FTP host, the port on which you want to establish the connection, the username and password (for accessing the remote location), and the filter type (for inclusion or exclusion).

Next, you can select alternative options, such as scanning for subdirectories, keeping track of the backed-up files and executing differential backups on a second instance of running, automatic app initiating at Windows startup, and, last but not least, switching to passive FTP.

Unlike normal FTP processes (that stands for File Transfer Protocol), a passive FTP is a different connection mode used when file transfer issues occur, mainly due to connectivity problems.

In an oversimplified manner, clients (the machines that attempt to connect to the servers) may be protected by firewalls that block given ports. Because in an active mode, the server will attempt to connect to a random port of the client, this might result in a connectivity failure (because many of the client's ports might be disabled/blocked for incoming requests).

If you encounter a connection failure when using Backup PC files to Ftp in an active FTP mode, try checking the FTP passive mode checkbox (which will change the connection threads when your client will connect to the remote server based on the port indicated by that server).

All things considered, Backup PC files to Ftp is a fairly simple and efficient application that should allow you to conduct successful backups and evaluate potential errors based on the accessible text file log.
