Specifically designed for use in engineering, BeamSection provides users with a beam property calculator that is both free and easy to use. This application makes it possible to determine the beam cross-section properties while previewing the beam section sketch based on the custom dimensions you set.

The setup process is quick, and, after just a few seconds, you can have BeamSection up and running. You are required to create as many beam sections as you need, naming them all excatly as you consider fit.

BeamSection comes with support for multiple beam types, namely I Beam, Hollow Rectangle, Rectangle, Angle, C Beam, T beam, Round bar and Hollow circle. You can select the preferred one from the designated drop-down list.

Setting the custom cross-section dimensions results in an update in the preview area, which automatically refreshes if you change the values. You can zoom in and out, drag the preview drawing and rotate it freely.

To calculate the beam properties, just hit the “Solve” button. BeamSection outputs the beam properties that are usually calculated in engineering simulations, such as area, moment of inertia (Ixx, Iyy), centroid distance (Xc, Xy), the Torsion constant (J) and the Elastic section modulus (Sxx, Syy).
