What is betabrite messenger FOR LINUX?

BetaBrite

BetaBrite is a handy little command-line tool designed to help you program a BetaBrite LED sign. Think of it as your backstage pass to controlling those flashy lights! It communicates through the serial port, sending instructions using something called the ALPHA Sign Communications Protocol (ASCP).

What Makes BetaBrite Unique?

Add in some Java, Perl, XML, and cross-platform libraries, plus cool LED graphics-sharing features and web-enabled components. When you mix all this together, you start to see how powerful BetaBrite can be!

A Community for Sign Enthusiasts

The main goal here is to create awesome tools that let people hack their signs. Plus, we’re building a community where folks can share everything related to sign programming. I genuinely hope this project helps everyone understand how small ideas can turn into something really useful and fun.

What's New in This Release?

  • BetaBrite's limited functionality has been tested on Sun/SPARC systems running Solaris versions 8 & 9 with gcc 2.95 and 3.

  • It compiles on Linux x86 (RedHat 7.3), but keep in mind it hasn't been fully tested yet.

  • You start by typing 'configure', then 'make', followed by 'make install'—assuming no errors pop up.

  • If you do a default install, you'll find the betaBrite binary chilling in '/usr/local/bin'.

  • If you're curious about command line options, just run 'betabrite -h'.

  • This nifty tool even displays messages like "This is some text" on the sign with auto-color and auto-display features!

  • Your message will stay up for as long as possible, stored in file "A"—check out the PDF in the README for more info about BetaBrite memory files.
