Developed for the Yahoo! Widget Engine, Binary Converter is a small widget that lets you encode ASCII code to binary code, and vice versa. It can be easily installed and set up.
The interface of the tool is based on a rectangular frame with a green background, which you can move to any position on the screen, with the help of the mouse cursor.
All you have to do is write code and either transform it into binary or hexadecimal code, with the simple click of a button. The result is immediately displayed on the screen.
Unfortunately, you cannot export the code to a plain text document (TXT). However, you can copy it to the Clipboard by using the global hotkey for the Copy function, Ctrl + C, since this option is not available through the context menu.
Thanks to the default settings provided by the Yahoo! Widget Engine, you can access the Widget Preferences area, in order to make some adjustments. You can set the frame to stay on top or below all the other windows, to ignore mouse events and to prevent dragging, as well as adjust its opacity level between 20% and 100%.
The lightweight widget does not put a strain on the computer's overall performance, as it uses a very low quantity of CPU and system memory. It has a good response time and works fine, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or pop up error notifications; we haven't encountered any issues throughout our evaluation. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, Binary Converter can be effortlessly handled, even by novice users.
