Bitsorb is a simple app for your Mac that helps speed up your downloads. Unlike the usual download feature in web browsers, which only uses one connection, Bitsorb can use up to 8 threads at once. This means you can get your files faster!
The first time you open Bitsorb on your Mac, you might see a warning from OS X's Gatekeeper saying it can't be opened because it's from an unknown developer. Don't worry! Just right-click on the Bitsorb icon, select "Open," and then click the "Open" button in the pop-up that appears. If you want more help with this process, there’s a handy tutorial on the developer's website.
You can easily access Bitsorb by clicking its small icon in your status bar. Once it’s open, it will stay there until you choose to close or minimize it.
The Bitsorb menulet icon also shows you how fast you're downloading files, measured in bits per second. It’s super handy!
To kick off a download with Bitsorb, just drag and drop the URL onto its Dock or status bar icon, or hit the “Add Download” button inside the app. It will check the link and get ready to start downloading.
If you're worried about using too much bandwidth, no problem! You can pause certain downloads or add some links to a later list right from the start.
Each transfer gets its own window where you can see how many connections are active, what your download speed is like, and how much time is left before it’s done.
If needed, there's also a Download Properties panel where you can enter any authentication details for specific servers. Just keep in mind that how many threads you can use or if you can pause depends on where you're downloading from.
Bitsorb gives you basic download acceleration without overwhelming interfaces or complicated steps. But remember, while it works well for most needs, there aren’t many customization options available. You can't change how many connections are used per download or set automatic downloads with this tool.
