Boost Changer is an awesome Electron-based app that helps you control different settings of your Intel CPU on Linux computers. You can even tweak its frequency!
This handy app lets you speed up your CPU to get the best performance possible or dial it back to save energy. Just a heads up, it only works on Intel-powered Linux machines and won’t run on virtual machines.
One of the coolest things about Boost Changer is how user-friendly it is! The app has two main sections: the Dashboard and the CPU Settings.
The Dashboard gives you all sorts of info about your computer, like the OS name, Kernel version, uptime, CPU details, memory usage, and even your local and public IPs. But if you want to make real changes, head over to the CPU Settings section.
In CPU Settings, you can pick from four predefined “power modes”: Power Save, Balance, Performance, and Ultra. While you don’t need root access to run the app, when you hit 'Turn Off' or 'Turn On', be ready for a pop-up asking for your system's main password.
Even though Boost Changer aims to be simple and straightforward, it's better suited for folks with at least some basic computer knowledge.
In short, this app gives you quick access to sysfs settings related to Intel processors without messing with other power management tools like TLP or powertop.
If you're looking to adjust your computer's CPU output or battery voltage without a fuss—this app does a great job! It’s designed so even beginners can jump in and start making changes.
Right now, Boost Changer is only available for Intel-powered Linux PCs. But who knows? Future updates might add support for AMD processors and NVIDIA GPU settings too!
