Booze is a cool game engine that lets you play a bunch of Chess-like games. And the best part? It's totally free and works on all major operating systems! Right now, you can enjoy Shogi, Mini-Shogi, and Tori Shogi. There are plans for future versions to include XiangQi, Chess, and some other fun games too.
Shogi is often called Japanese Chess. It’s played on a 9 by 9 board and has this unique "drop" rule. This rule lets you put captured pieces back onto the board, which adds a whole new twist to the game!
Tori Shogi, which means Bird Chess in English, is a variation that’s played on a 7 by 7 board. The pieces are named after birds and they move in some pretty interesting ways. It’s definitely something different!
If you're looking for something smaller, Mini Shogi fits perfectly! It’s played on a 5 by 5 board but follows the same rules as regular Shogi. So if you know how to play Shogi, you'll pick this up quickly!
The game boasts awesome 3D graphics and has an easy-to-use interface. If you're ever unsure about what a piece does, just right-click on it! Plus, there’s built-in AI that offers different difficulty levels for all types of players. The developers are also working hard to improve the AI's strength at higher levels.
Booze is created using C++ along with wxWidgets and OpenGL for its user interface. The whole engine was designed to support various chess-like games.
