Boson is a super user-friendly macOS app designed to make audio editing quick and easy. You can record audio right from your microphone or import different types of audio files without any hassle.
This app isn’t just about recording; it also comes with basic audio processing tools. You can save your projects using Boson's own file format or convert them into popular formats like MP3, M4A, OGG, Flac, WAV, AIFF, or CAF. Pretty neat, right?
One cool feature of Boson is that it opens a new window for each recording or file you want to work on. That means you can have several windows open at once! Plus, it creates a visual representation of each audio track automatically, which makes editing way simpler.
When you're ready to edit, just use your mouse to select the parts you want to change. Boson will only apply effects to those sections! You can zoom in or out on the graphic display using the mouse scroll wheel or keyboard shortcuts.
At the bottom of each Boson window, you'll find all your essential editing tools—like Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo/Redo—and playback controls. This makes managing your edits super straightforward.
The built-in player lets you listen to your recordings easily. You can jump around in the track and even loop sections if needed!
You can adjust the output volume through the Boson Volume button and set your default input and output devices as well.
Boson creates a clean workspace where you can focus on essential audio tasks without getting bogged down by complicated settings.
However, keep in mind that during our test on a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 6GB RAM, we noticed the CPU usage spiking up to 88%. The RAM stayed around 60MB though.
A little heads-up: while Boson claims it can export projects in various media formats with some limitations, we found it tricky. We could only save our project using the Boson proprietary .bdw format before it crashed on us when trying other formats. For more details and download options check out Boson's page here!
