BotBfW

BotBfW stands for Books of the Bible for Windows. It started out as a program called botb and was originally made for DOS using Qbasic. Back in 1992, there was an attempt to switch it to C, but that didn’t go too well due to some knowledge gaps.

How to Use BotBfW

So, let’s talk about how you can use BotBfW. To start, there’s a space next to the [Check it!] button where you’ll enter your answer. When you hit that button, it checks if your answer matches the current book name. If you're stuck on a book, just click the [Hint] button! It’ll give you the first letter of the book.

Navigating Between Books

The [Go] button is your buddy when you want to jump straight to a specific book number between 1 and 66. You can either type in the number or click on the dropdown arrow for a list of books. Want to go back? The [OT] button takes you right back to Genesis without resetting everything!

Understanding Levels

The software has different skill levels: Expert, Advanced, Intermediate (the default), Easy, and Random mode. In Expert mode, you only get one shot at each question and no hints or lists! Advanced gives you two chances and lets you use hints if needed. The Intermediate level gives three chances with a spelling help list available.

Fun Features!

If you’re feeling confident, try Easy mode with six chances! Plus, there’s a random mode where questions pop up in any order—just like playing trivia!

Status Indicators

You’ll see smiley faces based on your answers: happy face for correct ones, disappointed face for wrong guesses that don’t count against you, and sad face if you're completely off.

Sound Effects & Customization

The sounds are pretty cool too! You get different sounds for right answers versus wrong ones. And hey, if you want some personal flair—change fonts or colors through the font dialog!

Error Checking & Book List

If you're wondering about what went wrong during your game, hit the [Check Wrong Answers] button. You’ll see a list showing incorrect entries starting from the Old Testament first.

Lastly, remember that the [Book List] feature is only available in Easy level if you're looking for help with order!
