Boxoft Free OCR

Boxoft Free OCR is an easy-to-use piece of software that enables you to analyze and extract multi-column text from images. It offers support for a wide range of file types, including TIF, GIF, JPG, PCX, BMP, ICO, PNG, WMF, EMF, TGA and RAW photos.

The setup kit is quickly unwrapped and it requires minimal user intervention. As for the interface, Boxoft Free OCR adopts a large window with a clear-cut structure, where you can import as many image files as you want.

It's possible to obtain pictures from a scanner, view, rotate, deskew or crop them, check out OCR text for all or just selected pages, or change the font size.

When it comes to text extraction, you can specify the saving directory and pages to take into account (all, page range, odd or even pages). What's more, the app lets you set the language path for OCR. It supports English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese, among other languages.

There were no stability issues in our tests, since it didn't freeze, crash or prompt error dialogs. Its impact on the overall performance of the PC was minimal, so it didn't hog system resources.

On the other hand, Boxoft Free OCR hasn't been updated for significant time, and it features only basic options for viewing and extracting OCR text, without reserving advanced customization settings for more experienced users. We should also keep in mind that it's a free product.
