BPACLer is a small-sized and portable piece of kit that has an embedded directory tree and lets you view user permissions for files. It doesn't require installation.

This information can be otherwise obtained by opening the "Properties" dialog of each file. BPACLer aims to simplify this task, though, by giving you the possibility to seamlessly navigate files and just select one of them to view user permissions. On the other hand, you should know that it doesn't implement options for modifying these properties.

As there is no setup involved, you can drop the program files in any part of the HDD and just click the executable to immediately launch BPACLer. Alternatively, you can copy it to a pen drive or other removable storage unit, in order to directly run the tool on any PC and find out file permissions. It doesn't modify Windows registry settings.

Made from a large window with a well-structured layout, the interface automatically loads the file explorer at startup, revealing the name, size, item type and date of modification for all files and folders in a given location.

All you have to do is select a file or directory from the list and discover the permissions for each PC user, including the system and administrator. These revolve around modifications, reading and execution, reading, writing, and full control.

You can extend this information to find out additional permissions: traverse folder or execute file, list folder or read data, read and write attributes and extended attributes, create files or write data, create folders or append data, delete, read and change permissions, and take ownership.

All these details can be printed or exported to file as Adobe Acrobat PDF, Rave Snapshot NDR, or Native Printer PRN.

There were no kind of stability issues in our tests, as the utility didn't freeze, crash or prompt errors. It didn't hamper system performance either, since it needed low CPU and RAM to function normally.

The only problem with BPACLer is that it hasn't been updated for a very long time. Otherwise, it's quite effective, facilitating a simple method for you to view user permissions for files.
