Bugs Everywhere for Windows

Bugs Everywhere is a tool that helps developers manage their bugs more effectively. This version is a fork from the main BE GIT repository, which you can check out here. I've made some changes to help it run better on Windows, so let’s dive into what’s new!

Cool New Features

Here are some of the awesome updates I've added:

• Command Files: I included be.bat and be.py, making it easier to use the software right from your command line.


• Encoding Fixes: Windows has some quirks when it comes to handling input and output encoding. I created environment variables called BE_INPUT_ENCODING and BE_OUTPUT_ENCODING. These allow you to set your encoding to UTF-8 or whatever works best for you!


• Scripting Made Easy: For my fellow Windows users who might not have tools like sed and awk, I put together a script called !Generate_version.bat.


• Zipping It Up: You can now run Bugs Everywhere straight from a ZIP file! This means you can create a self-contained install package that's super handy.


• VCS Integration: I've added a lightweight wrapper for the VCS API in the backend. This lets you interact with the underlying version control system without writing additional code.

Troubleshooting Notes

I should mention that I’ve had issues getting Bugs Everywhere to work with IronPython and also ran into problems using PyInstaller or py2exe. If you're curious about that, check out the scripts in the notworking directory! The dynamic nature of BE makes bundling tricky since it requires specific dependencies.
