Butterfly

Butterfly is a simple web browser you can use to quickly load pages and download files. It's a toned-down version of a fully featured web browser, which focuses on navigational controls more than anything else.

Those looking for an alternate browser to Firefox, Google, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Opera or other popular ones can give this one a shot.

The installation procedure is fast and easy. However, you should check to see if your computer has .NET Framework, since it cannot work without it.

As far as the interface is concerned, the main window has a plain look and no special graphical elements. Multiple tabs are supported, so you can open navigate multiple pages at the same time and easily switch them.

The toolbar contains back, forward, home and refresh button, along with an address bar and buttons to rapidly access Facebook, Twitter, Google and Meebo (now owned by Google).

You can check websites for threats, download files to your computer, as well as take a screenshot of the currently opened webpage and save the image to file.

There are also buttons displayed for downloading all pictures from the current page, viewing page usage statistics as well as for accessing the settings panel.

Unfortunately, Butterfly remained in beta mode and the developer never got the chance to implement those functions. In fact, the software project doesn't seem to be in development anymore.

Even so, we didn't have any trouble getting it to run on the newest Windows edition in our tests. It loaded pages fast, didn't show any errors, and used minimal system resources. On the other hand, the basic web browser has little to offer. Nevertheless, you can test Butterfly for yourself, since it's free.
