With infrastructure design and building construction on the rise, specialized methods have developed throughout the years for faster and better results. Thanks to an abundance of CAD applications, anyone can now create a blueprint with accurate calculus and plots for a proper project. CADEMIA is amongst them, putting a friendly environment at your disposal so you can draw and export designs.
Before rushing to download and install the application, make sure your computer is equipped with Java Runtime Environment for proper functioning. In terms of visual design, every aspect is kept pretty simple, with most space representing your canvas, while all necessary tools are a mouse click away stored in the upper toolbar.
On the other hand, you need to spend some time to get acquainted with all features put at your disposal. Amongst others, there's a text field dedicated to custom command parameters and math expressions to better determine drawings and representations.
Sadly, there's no list of commands you can write down and every mouse click seems to trigger a new set of options, creating a little confusion if you don't pay extra attention. You might get stuck along the way, because almost every action is related to commands, and just moving an object around can prove to be pretty difficult.
You can use a decent amount of drawing tools, with customizable options regarding width, layer, pattern and color. Selection gets in your way, with default controls moving the view around. You need to select options from a dedicated menu for arrangement of objects.
File support also leaves a little something to be desired. Drag and drop is not supported so you need to use the file explorer. The application only lets you open its specific format or DXF, which is also the only export type besides printing out on a sheet of paper or piling your design in a PDF document.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that CADEMIA is not the most advanced design application out there, although packed with various drawing and precision tools. Sure, a great deal of flexibility is provided by the custom commands you can write down, but some degree of knowledge is required, as well as a lot of time to accommodate.
