Chinese FlashCards

Chinese FlashCards is part of the Declan Software suite and is a super helpful Mac app for anyone wanting to learn Chinese or boost their vocabulary. This app focuses on Mandarin Chinese and uses simplified characters, making it easy to get started!

Easy to Use Interface

Using Chinese FlashCards is pretty straightforward. The left side panel has all the tools you need, while the main area is where you can solve exercises or check out word lists. It’s designed so that you can jump right in without feeling lost.

Word Lists Galore

The app comes with three default word lists covering seasons, days of the week, and animals. But here’s the cool part: you can also use the “Load WordFile” panel to download over 100 lists with more than 5,000 words and phrases! Plus, there’s a “Custom WordFiles” section where you can see lists made by your friends or even create your own.

Reviewing Made Simple

To kick things off, just pick a subject and head over to the “Review Learning List” panel. Here, you’ll see the Chinese writing along with pronunciation and meaning. You can even listen to an audio recording that helps with pronunciation!

Customize Your Learning

The review list starts with just 10 words, but if you're feeling ambitious, you can view all words in your current list through the “Task and Options” panel. This area lets you tweak things like review mode, volume level, which exercises to tackle—basically making your learning experience fit just for you!

Diverse Exercises for Better Learning

To help track your progress and make memorization easier, Chinese FlashCards offers four types of exercises:

• Word: See the Chinese word; choose its meaning.


• Meaning: See the meaning; indicate the Chinese word.


• Grid: See part of a word; select from a grid.


• Listening: Hear pronunciation; select its meaning.
